  • SayPro Heartfelt and sincere appreciation article to the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA)

A Sincere and Heartfelt Appreciation to the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA)
In Recognition of Their Support for SayPro’s Victim Empowerment Programmes – In Alignment with the National Strategic Plan for Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (NSP-GBVF 2030), 2023–2024

It is with the deepest respect and heartfelt gratitude that we, at SayPro, extend our warmest thanks to the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) for their impactful support and funding of our Victim Empowerment Programmes during the critical years of 2023 to 2024.

Your generous contribution and unwavering commitment to advancing social justice, gender equity, and the well-being of vulnerable individuals have not only elevated our capacity as an organization but have also changed countless lives across the communities we serve.

The support received from HWSETA was more than just a financial investment—it was a powerful statement of solidarity in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), a crisis that continues to affect women, children, and marginalized populations in South Africa. Through this collaborative effort, SayPro was able to take bold and meaningful steps in support of the National Strategic Plan on GBVF 2030, working toward a safer, more inclusive, and more just society.

Thanks to HWSETA’s support, SayPro was able to achieve the following milestones:

    1. Capacity Building and Skills Development

We successfully trained dozens of emerging professionals, social workers, community development practitioners, and frontline responders in the core areas of victim empowerment, trauma-informed care, counseling, and support services. This not only created employment and learning opportunities but also contributed to the sustainability of victim empowerment services in under-resourced areas.

    2. Community-Based Workshops and Awareness Campaigns

SayPro conducted extensive community dialogues, workshops, and education campaigns designed to address the root causes of GBVF. These initiatives focused on challenging harmful social norms, promoting respectful relationships, and creating safe spaces for survivors to speak out and access support.

    3. Victim Support and Referral Systems

With HWSETA’s help, SayPro enhanced its referral systems to ensure that survivors of GBV could be quickly and compassionately connected to critical services such as medical care, legal aid, psychosocial support, and shelter. These services were made more accessible and visible to those in need, especially in remote and underserved communities.

    4. Youth and Women Empowerment Initiatives

Recognizing the importance of prevention, we integrated gender equality education and life skills development into our programming—particularly targeting young men and boys, while uplifting women and girls through empowerment initiatives that promote independence, self-worth, and leadership.

    5. Support for the NSP-GBVF 2030 Goals

SayPro’s Victim Empowerment Programmes directly contributed to the pillars outlined in the NSP-GBVF, particularly Pillar 1 (Accountability), Pillar 2 (Prevention and Rebuilding Social Cohesion), and Pillar 4 (Response, Care, Support, and Healing). This alignment ensured that our work supported the broader national goal of eradicating GBVF in our lifetime.

To the leadership, team, and visionaries at HWSETA:

Your trust in SayPro and belief in our mission has not gone unnoticed. Your role in helping us strengthen our victim empowerment interventions has created ripples of healing, growth, and transformation in communities that have long suffered in silence.

Your support is not only appreciated—it is deeply respected and profoundly felt by every person who has found strength, hope, and recovery through the opportunities you helped make possible.

As we continue our work in advancing the rights and dignity of survivors and building resilient communities, we carry with us the encouragement and momentum that your support provided.

  • SayPro Deep and Sincere Appreciation to the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) for Empowering SayPro with HIV/AIDS Training Support (2020–2021).

In a time when the world faced unprecedented uncertainty and disruption, one thing remained constant: the unwavering commitment of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to saving lives and supporting communities affected by HIV/AIDS.

On behalf of the entire SayPro team and the many lives we’ve been able to impact, we extend our most heartfelt and sincere appreciation to PEPFAR for generously offering training support to SayPro during the years 2020–2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic not only brought the global healthcare system to its knees but also threatened to reverse decades of progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Resources were stretched, health facilities were overwhelmed, and vulnerable communities were left at greater risk than ever before. Yet, amidst all this, PEPFAR remained a beacon of hope and resilience—proving, once again, that when global partners stand together, transformation is possible even in the darkest times.

Through PEPFAR’s generous support, SayPro was able to roll out extensive HIV/AIDS training and awareness programmes that reached thousands of young people, community members, and emerging leaders across various regions in South Africa. These programmes were not only timely but also life-saving.

Key areas of impact through this partnership included:

    1. Education & Awareness Campaigns:
With PEPFAR’s backing, SayPro was able to develop and deliver tailored HIV/AIDS education programmes that tackled key issues such as prevention, testing, treatment, and stigma. These campaigns were crucial in ensuring that communities, especially young people, remained informed and empowered during the pandemic.
    2. Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building:
SayPro, with the help of PEPFAR, trained hundreds of youth ambassadors to serve as peer educators and community leaders. These young people became instrumental in spreading accurate information about HIV/AIDS, encouraging testing, supporting those affected, and challenging the stigma often associated with the virus.
    3. Digital & Remote Learning Innovations:
When in-person gatherings were restricted due to lockdowns, PEPFAR’s support enabled SayPro to transition to digital platforms, ensuring continued access to information. We developed online workshops, WhatsApp information hubs, and interactive social media sessions to keep our communities engaged and informed.
    4. Stigma Reduction & Psychosocial Support:
With training and funding made possible by PEPFAR, SayPro incorporated mental health and emotional well-being into our HIV/AIDS education efforts. This holistic approach allowed us to better support individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, particularly those dealing with fear, shame, or isolation.
    5. Community Outreach & Mobilization:
Even during difficult times, our outreach efforts continued, with protective measures in place. The support from PEPFAR made it possible for us to reach deep into underserved areas—places often overlooked or underserved—ensuring that no one was left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The significance of PEPFAR’s support cannot be overstated. This was not just a funding opportunity; it was a powerful statement of solidarity, compassion, and belief in the potential of grassroots organisations like SayPro to bring about meaningful change. It reminded us that we are not alone in this fight—and that every life is worth saving.

We are humbled and honored to have been part of this global mission under PEPFAR’s leadership. The partnership strengthened our capabilities, broadened our reach, and ignited a renewed passion within our team to continue serving, educating, and empowering communities well beyond the period of direct support.

As we look back at the impact of the training and look forward to future possibilities, we carry with us the inspiration, lessons, and momentum provided by this incredible collaboration. Our gratitude to PEPFAR runs deep, and we pledge to carry forward this mission with integrity, dedication, and hope.

Thank you, PEPFAR, for your unwavering dedication to global health, your belief in community-driven change, and your continued investment in a world free from HIV/AIDS. Your generosity has changed lives—one community, one voice, one soul at a time.
