Purpose:
To guide the ethical collection, use, and dissemination of information related to SayPro programs, partnerships, and population impact narratives.
1. Informed Consent
- Have all individuals featured in stories, interviews, or photographs signed a consent form?
- Is consent voluntary, informed, and specific to the intended use (e.g., publication, online sharing)?
- For minors, has parental/guardian consent been obtained?
2. Privacy and Confidentiality
- Are personal identifiers (e.g., full names, locations, faces) protected where anonymity is requested?
- Have sensitive topics (e.g., gender-based violence, disability, migration status) been handled with discretion and care?
- Are case studies and testimonies stored securely and shared only with authorized personnel?
3. Accuracy and Integrity
- Is the story or data factually accurate, verified, and free of exaggeration or misrepresentation?
- Has the narrative been approved by the individual/organization involved, where applicable?
- Are statistics and claims backed by credible sources or evidence?
4. Dignity and Representation
- Does the documentation portray individuals and communities with respect, dignity, and agency?
- Is the language inclusive, non-discriminatory, and empowering?
- Have cultural norms and sensitivities been respected?
5. Use and Distribution
- Is the documentation being used in alignment with the stated purpose (e.g., awareness, advocacy, reporting)?
- Has the content been reviewed for alignment with SayPro’s editorial, advocacy, or partnership goals?
- Are appropriate content warnings or disclaimers included, if needed?
6. Photo, Video, and Media Ethics
- Are all visuals ethically sourced and properly credited?
- Are the subjects aware of where and how their image/video will be used?
- Are visuals free of exploitation, stereotyping, or emotional manipulation?
7. Ethical Approval (for Research-Based Submissions)
- If the documentation involves formal research, has it been approved by an ethics committee or relevant body?
- Are data collection methods transparent and compliant with ethical research guidelines?
Final Confirmation
- This documentation has been ethically reviewed by a designated SayPro officer.
- All relevant parties have been informed of their rights and the intended use of the materials.
