SayPro Launches Internship Programme for University and TVET Graduates in Partnership with HWSETA

SayPro (Southern Africa Youth Project), a trusted and forward-thinking youth development organization, is proud to announce the implementation of a structured internship programme for five recent graduates. This impactful initiative is made possible through the support and partnership of the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA).

As part of SayPro’s ongoing commitment to building pathways from education to employment, the organization has welcomed two university graduates with qualifications in Information Technology and three graduates from TVET collegestwo with Human Resources Management qualifications, and one with Financial Management. These interns are placed in various departments within SayPro for a meaningful and guided workplace experience.

This internship programme forms part of a broader national drive to provide young South Africans—especially those from marginalized communities—with critical work experience, mentorship, and exposure to industry-standard tools and environments. SayPro recognizes that many graduates struggle to find employment due to a lack of experience, and this programme directly responds to that challenge by preparing them for long-term employment or entrepreneurship.

Interns by Discipline and Placement Areas

1. Information Technology (2 University Graduates)

These graduates have been placed in SayPro’s Technology and Innovation Division, where they are actively involved in the design, development, and management of digital systems. Their day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Supporting internal IT infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting user issues and technical bugs
  • Assisting with website development, software updates, and cybersecurity initiatives
  • Participating in SayPro’s digital projects including online learning platforms and cloud-based data systems

The internship provides them with exposure to real-world applications of programming, system administration, and IT governance—preparing them for roles in both the private and public sectors.

2. Human Resources Management (2 TVET Graduates)

These interns have been integrated into SayPro’s People and Culture Unit. Their responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with recruitment processes such as screening, scheduling, and onboarding
  • Updating and maintaining employee records
  • Coordinating staff training and workshops
  • Supporting compliance with HR policies and labour legislation

This internship allows them to apply classroom theory in real-life HR scenarios, while also learning about best practices in employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.

3. Financial Management (1 TVET Graduate)

Placed within SayPro’s Finance and Administration Department, this intern works closely with the finance team on:

  • Processing invoices, receipts, and financial transactions
  • Assisting with payroll, budgeting, and financial reports
  • Supporting audit preparations and compliance requirements
  • Learning financial systems such as Sage or QuickBooks

This placement equips the intern with valuable practical experience in managing organizational finances, improving their chances of employment in accounting or administrative roles in both the NPO and business sectors.

A Strategic Investment in the Future

This internship programme is more than just a placement—it is a structured capacity-building effort that allows interns to develop:

  • Professionalism and workplace etiquette
  • Technical and digital skills relevant to their field
  • Communication and teamwork abilities
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capacity

SayPro ensures that every intern receives:

  • A dedicated workplace mentor
  • A work plan aligned with their area of study
  • Mid-term and final performance evaluations
  • Ongoing support, training, and guidance throughout their internship period

Appreciation to HWSETA

SayPro extends its heartfelt appreciation to HWSETA for providing the funding and opportunity to host these five graduates. HWSETA’s investment enables youth who have completed their qualifications to receive the practical experience they need to enter the job market with confidence.

“This internship programme is a beacon of hope for graduates who are ready to serve, contribute, and grow. We thank HWSETA for recognizing the importance of workplace exposure and for trusting SayPro to implement this vision with excellence,” said Neftaly Malatjie, Founder and Executive Director of SayPro.

By working together, SayPro and HWSETA are not only enhancing individual career prospects but also contributing to broader economic development, skills transformation, and social inclusion in South Africa.
