Position Title: SCSPR-81 Participant – Local Needs and Challenges Researcher

Reporting To: Research and Insights Lead – SayPro Strategic Partnerships Royalty
Role Overview
Participants taking on the Local Needs and Challenges Researcher role will play a critical part in understanding the real, lived experiences of communities in informal settlements and backyard environments. The information gathered will help SayPro tailor its accreditation programs, partnerships, and development strategies based on accurate, community-driven data.
This research will be compiled into actionable briefing reports used to inform discussions at the SCSPR-81 event and guide the design of future SayPro initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Community-Based Research:
Investigate the current socio-economic, infrastructural, legal, and health-related challenges faced by informal and backyard communities. This can include:- Lack of access to water, sanitation, electricity, and roads
- Housing insecurity or overcrowding
- Employment and income limitations
- Inadequate access to education, health, or social services
- Legal status and land tenure issues
- Safety and disaster risk (fire, flooding, etc.)
- Challenges faced by vulnerable groups (youth, women, elderly, disabled)
- Engage Stakeholders and Data Sources:
Gather data through a mix of:- Interviews or informal consultations with residents or local leaders
- Review of government, NGO, and academic reports
- Online surveys or public datasets (where direct engagement isn’t possible)
- Compile Research Reports:
Create concise, well-structured reports that include:- Geographic focus (city/town/community)
- Key challenges identified
- Community priorities and coping mechanisms
- Stakeholders currently active in the area
- Data visualizations (optional) to summarize findings
- Thematic Alignment:
Organize research findings according to SCSPR-81 key focus areas:- Infrastructure and basic services
- Legal and policy barriers
- Housing conditions and solutions
- Social and community development needs
Expected Output
- One research report per participant or group (5–10 pages)
- Reports must be evidence-based, referenced, and community-relevant
- Submission deadline: May 25, 2025
- Optional: Summary presentation slide deck or infographic
Skills Required
- Research and analytical writing skills

- Ability to synthesize complex data clearly and responsibly
- Background in urban studies, social science, or public development is beneficial
